The mulch for big areas. Coarse, long-lasting, and made here.
Australian Native Garden Mulch is a composted mulch screened to 40 mm, which makes it the coarsest of the three we make. The bigger pieces knit together on the ground, so it stays put on slopes and in wind, holds its colour and texture for longer, and takes a lot longer to break down than a fine mulch. That is exactly what you want when you are covering a large area and don't want to be back next spring doing it again. It is the mulch landscapers put down by the truckload, and the one to choose for native gardens, big beds, paths and anywhere the job is measured in metres rather than barrows.
Made at our Keilor Park yard, from green waste we collect
Every cubic metre starts as Melbourne garden waste. We pulverise it, compost it hot for a month so weed seeds and pathogens are dead, then screen it. Australian Native is the 40 mm screen. The same material screened finer is our English Country Garden Mulch at 12 mm, and finer again it is Dig In Compost. One process, one source, three products, and nothing we sell is trucked in from somewhere else.
- 100% recycled Melbourne green waste
- Hot composted — weed seeds and pathogens killed
- Screened to 40 mm

How much do I need?
| Depth | 1 m³ covers | For a 4 m × 2 m bed | For a 10 m × 4 m area |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 mm top-up | 20 m² | 0.4 m³ — order 1 m³ | 2 m³ — order 2 m³ |
| 75 mm standard | 13 m² | 0.6 m³ — order 1 m³ | 3 m³ — order 3 m³ |
| 100 mm weed control | 10 m² | 0.8 m³ — order 1 m³ | 4 m³ — order 4 m³ |
Length × width × depth (in metres) = cubic metres. If you're between sizes, go up a half-metre. For a whole block, measure each bed and add them up, or ring us with the numbers and we'll do it for you.
Common questions
Australian Native or English Country?
Same material, different screen. Australian Native is up to 40 mm, so it is chunkier, lasts longer on the ground and costs less per metre, which suits big areas, native gardens, paths and slopes. English Country is 12 mm, so it is finer, neater and breaks down faster, which suits garden beds, veggies and anywhere on show. If you're mulching a whole block, Native. If you're mulching the beds along the house, English Country.
How long does it last?
Longer than any other mulch we make. The coarse pieces break down slowly, so a 75–100 mm layer will hold its cover for a couple of seasons and often more before it needs a top-up. It feeds the soil as it goes, just more gradually than a fine mulch does. If you want the longest gap between mulching, this is the one.
Is it weed-free, and will it look like the photo?
It is composted hot for a month, which kills weed seeds and pathogens, so you are not bringing weeds in with it. The colour can vary a little from batch to batch because it is a natural composted product rather than a dyed one — it is always a natural brown, but some loads are darker than others. If the colour matters for a particular job, ring us and we'll describe what's in the yard today.
What happens on delivery day?
The truck tips the load where you tell us — a driveway, nature strip or front lawn. Put a tarp down if you want a clean pickup afterwards, and let us know about tight access, overhead wires or a steep drive when you order. Mulch is light, so one truck carries up to 8 m³, twice what it carries in soil; orders over 8 m³ are two trips and we'll confirm the cost with you first.

The all-round garden soil for beds that are planted once and kept for years
Botanical Blend is a premium garden soil for general planting: shrubs, perennials, roses, hedges, trees and the ordinary garden bed along the fence. It is lighter and drains more freely than our Veggie Mix, which is what you want for plants that will live in the same spot for years rather than be fed hard and picked in a season. Fill a new bed with it, or dig it through a tired one, and plant straight in.
Premium soil, nothing added
Botanical Blend is premium soil on its own. We don't blend compost through it the way we do with Veggie Mix, and that is deliberate: a long-lived planting wants a soil that drains well and holds its structure, not one that is as rich as a vegetable bed. If a particular bed needs more life in it, the answer is a bag or a barrow of our own Dig In Compost forked through the top, which lets you decide how rich each bed should be rather than having it decided for you.
- Premium garden soil
- Free-draining, holds its structure
- Nothing added — plain premium soil
- Delivered loose by the cubic metre

Common questions
Botanical Blend or Veggie Mix?
Botanical Blend for flowers, shrubs, hedges, trees and general garden beds: plants that live in the one spot for years and want a soil that drains well and keeps its structure. Veggie Mix for growing food: it has our Dig In Compost blended through it, so it is heavier and richer, built for plants that are fed hard and picked in a season. If a bed does both, Veggie Mix is the safer pick.
Can I plant straight into it?
Yes. Spread it, water it well so it settles, and plant the same day or the next. For a bed that is going to be planted heavily, fork some Dig In Compost through the top first and it will carry the plants through the first season without any extra feeding.
Is it the right soil under a new lawn?
It will work, but Turf Loam is the one made for it: a sandier, more even-screening soil that levels well and drains the way a lawn needs. Use Botanical Blend for the beds and Turf Loam for the lawn, and both can come on the same truck where the volumes allow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you deliver to?
We deliver to most properties across Metro Melbourne. If you're just outside metro, please provide your address and I'd be happy to let you know if we service your suburb.
How much does delivery cost?
Delivery costs vary depending on the volume ordered, your location, and how many truck trips are needed to complete the order. If you'd like to give me your address and what you're after (soil, mulch or compost, and how much), I'd be happy to work out a quote for you.
Can I pick up soil, mulch or compost from your yard?
Yes - soil, mulch and Dig In Compost can all be picked up at our Keilor Park yard during trading hours, as well as ordered online for delivery. You'll need a trailer or ute that can handle the load. 48 Stadium Drive, Keilor Park.
Is soil, mulch or compost delivered loose, or in bags?
All of our soil, mulch and Dig In Compost is delivered loose (not bagged) by truck. It's worth having a tarp down at the delivery spot so it's easy to move and clean up afterwards.
What do I need to do to prepare for my delivery?
We recommend laying a tarp down in your designated delivery area - as everything is tipped loosely, this makes it much easier to move and clean up. It's also important that the spot is somewhere our trucks can safely access and navigate to.
Will my order arrive in one delivery, or will I need multiple?
That depends on the volume you order. Our trucks can carry a maximum of roughly 6m³ of mulch or 3.5–4m³ of soil per load, so larger orders may need more than one truckload to complete, which can incur additional delivery fees.
If you let us know the volume you're after, we can confirm upfront whether it will need multiple trips.
What if my street is narrow or my property is hard to access?
Please let us know as early as possible, ideally well before your scheduled delivery. Our trucks need reasonable access to tip safely, so if there are any tight streets, low branches or narrow driveways, flagging this in advance means we can plan the best way to get your order to you.
Can soil and mulch be delivered together in the same trip?
It depends on the volumes involved and truck capacity - soil and mulch can be loaded on one truck however since the trucks have different maximum loads for each (around 3.5–4m³ for soil vs up to 6m³ for mulch). Let us know what you need and we'll do our best to combine deliveries where possible to save on fees.
Do you offer next day delivery?
Order now for next day delivery in most cases, subject to truck and stock availability.
Which soil should I use for my vegetable garden or flower bed?
Botanical Blend is the one to go for - it's our most popular variety and is suited to both vegetable gardens and general garden use.
What is Turf Loam and when do I need it?
Turf Loam is our specialty sandy loam soil, used as a base under instant turf or when seeding and laying a lawn - it provides excellent drainage and a firm, level structure for your turf to establish. Note: Turf Loam incurs a separate delivery fee to any turf ordered alongside it, so let us know if you're ordering both.
How much soil do I need for my garden bed?
It's based on the area (m²) you're covering and the depth you need - as a guide, soil depths generally range from 50mm to 300mm depending on what it's for (topping up a bed vs filling a raised garden). Measure your area and multiply by your desired depth to get the volume in m³. If you're unsure, let us know your measurements and we can help you work it out.
Do I need to mix in compost or fertiliser with the soil?
Botanical Blend already has manure mixed through it, so it's ready to plant into as-is. For an extra boost, particularly in clay or nutrient-poor soils, digging through some Dig In Compost is a great way to add extra organic matter and improve structure.
Will the soil settle or compact over time?
Yes, this is completely normal - loose soil naturally settles as it beds in, especially after rain or watering. It's worth ordering a little extra or being prepared to top up after the first few weeks if you need it flush with existing garden beds or paving.
Melbourne's garden waste, turned back into Melbourne's gardens
Dig In Compost is a fine, dark, finished compost made at our yard from the green waste we collect across Melbourne. It is what you dig through tired or heavy soil to bring it back to life, what you spread on a bed before planting, and what we blend into our own Veggie Mix. Because it is fully composted and finely screened, it goes to work the day it arrives rather than sitting on top of the ground waiting to break down.
Made at our Keilor Park yard, from green waste we collect
Every cubic metre of Dig In Compost starts as Melbourne garden waste. We pulverise it, compost it hot for a month so weed seeds and pathogens are dead, then screen it. Dig In is the finest screen we run. The same material screened coarser becomes our English Country Garden Mulch at 12 mm and Australian Native Garden Mulch at 40 mm. One process, one source, three products, and nothing we sell is trucked in from somewhere else.

Common questions
Compost or mulch — which one?
Compost goes in the soil; mulch goes on top of it. Dig In Compost is fine and finished, so you dig it through the ground or spread it thinly where the worms can pull it down. Mulch is the same material screened coarser, left on the surface to hold moisture and keep weeds down. Most beds want both: compost in, then 50 mm of English Country Garden Mulch over the top.
Can I use it on its own instead of soil?
No. Compost is a soil improver, not a growing medium, and a bed filled with pure compost sinks and dries out fast. If you need to fill a bed, Veggie Mix for vegetables or Botanical Blend for general planting are the ready mixes, and both already have Dig In Compost blended through them.
Is it weed-free, and does it smell?
The compost is held hot for a month, which kills weed seeds and pathogens, and it is screened fine so there are no sticks or lumps. It has a clean, earthy smell rather than anything sour. On a cold morning a fresh load can arrive steaming — that's just the heat still in it, and it is perfectly fine to use straight away.
Is it certified organic?
No, it isn't certified. It is made from 100% recycled green waste with nothing else added, so there is no manure, no biosolids and no chemical feed in it, but we haven't put it through a certification scheme. If you need a certified product for a specific reason, ring us and we'll talk it through.

Our most popular mulch. Fine, dark, and made here.
English Country Garden Mulch is a composted mulch screened to 12 mm, which makes it the finest and most refined of the three we make. It spreads easily, sits neatly on a bed, and holds moisture through a Melbourne summer. Because it is fine and fully composted, it also breaks down faster than a coarse mulch, which means it starts feeding the soil underneath within the first season rather than just sitting on top. It is the one to choose for garden beds, flower beds and veggie patches, and anywhere you want the mulch to look as good as the plants.

Common questions
English Country or Australian Native?
Same material, different screen. English Country is 12 mm, so it is finer, neater and breaks down faster, which suits garden beds, veggies and anywhere on show. Australian Native is up to 40 mm, so it is chunkier, lasts longer on the ground and costs less per metre, which suits big areas, native gardens and paths. If you're mulching a whole block, Native. If you're mulching the beds along the house, English Country.
How long does it last?
A 75 mm layer does a full season and usually more, but because it is fine and composted it is feeding the soil as it goes, so it does thin out. Most people top up with 50 mm each spring. That is the trade-off with a fine mulch: it looks better and does more for the soil, and in return you add to it a little more often.
Is it weed-free, and will it look like the photo?
It is composted hot for a month, which kills weed seeds and pathogens, so you are not bringing weeds in with it. The colour can vary a little from batch to batch because it is a natural composted product rather than a dyed one — it is always dark, but some loads are browner and some blacker. If the colour matters for a particular job, ring us and we'll describe what's in the yard today.

The value base for a new lawn
Lawn Mix is a blended lawn soil for building up and levelling the ground before instant turf goes down. It does the job the turf needs — a firm, even bed that drains and holds enough moisture for new roots — at a lower price per metre than our Turf Loam. If you're laying a lawn on a budget, or covering a big area where the metres add up, this is the one. It is for under the turf only: it isn't screened fine enough to brush into an existing lawn, so for top-dressing use Turf Loam.
Lawn Mix or Turf Loam? Pick by the job, not the price.
Both go under new turf. Lawn Mix is the economy option: a blended soil that builds up levels and gives the turf a sound base, at $99 a metre. Turf Loam is a screened sandy loam, the soil our own installation team lays under every lawn, and the only one of the two you can use for top-dressing, levelling an existing lawn or preparing a seed bed. If the ground is already reasonable and you just need to build it up and level it, Lawn Mix is fine. If you want the best result under the turf, or you'll be top-dressing later, go Turf Loam.
- For under new instant turf
- Builds up levels, drains, firms under a roller
- Not for top-dressing — use Turf Loam
- Delivered loose by the cubic metre

Common questions
Why is it cheaper than Turf Loam?
Turf Loam is a screened sandy loam chosen for a consistent, fine, free-draining finish, which is what you pay for. Lawn Mix is a blended soil that does the structural job under turf — building up, levelling, firming — without that fine screening. Under 30 mm of turf with roots pushing down through it, that difference matters less than it does on the surface, which is why we offer both.
Can I top-dress my lawn with it?
No. Top-dressing needs a fine, even soil you can brush down between the grass blades, and Lawn Mix is too coarse for that; it will sit on top and smother the leaf. Use Turf Loam for top-dressing, levelling an existing lawn or preparing ground for seed.
Can the soil come on the same delivery as my turf?
No. Turf is cut fresh at the farm and sent straight to you, while Lawn Mix comes from our yard on a soil truck, so they are two deliveries with two delivery fees. Order the soil first, spread and level it a day or two ahead, and have the turf arrive onto a bed that is ready, so it goes down the day it is cut.

Hard-wearing kikuyu, bred for Victorian conditions
Premium Eureka Kikuyu VG is the one we point people at when the yard takes a hammering: kids, dogs, a nature strip everyone walks across. Its runners travel above and below ground, so worn patches repair themselves, and it has a finer leaf than common kikuyu with better colour through the cooler months. It's also the cheapest of the four, which matters on a big area.
Not the cheap kikuyu, and backed in writing
Eureka Kikuyu VG is a named, protected variety, not generic kikuyu: a finer leaf, and better performance through the cooler months when ordinary kikuyu yellows off and stops recovering from wear. Ours is grown in Victoria by a Lawn Solutions accredited grower under AusGAP inspection, and comes with a 10-year Product Warranty Certificate, emailed to you once it's in the ground.

Common questions
How often should I water it?
For the first 2 to 4 weeks, water regularly to help it establish and develop its root system — the soil under the lawn should be damp, not dry. After that, once every 7 to 10 days is fine.
Will it keep weeds out, and what if they appear?
Kikuyu is a creeping grass, so once it's established it's very good at crowding weeds out. If some do come through, hand weeding is usually the best fix for spot issues. Kikuyu isn't exempt from herbicides, so you can also work a winter grass killer into your routine — apply at the end of winter or the start of spring for the best result.
How do I top dress and fertilise it?
If you're levelling out bumps, use washed sand. For everything else a sandy loam like our turf loam is the better choice, because it carries some organic matter as well as levelling — no more than a centimetre at a time, with the grass tips still showing. Then fertilise at the start of each season with Lawn Solutions Premium Fertiliser, which suits kikuyu as well as the buffalo varieties.

What’s The Best Way To Store Your Redgum Firewood?
The firewood can be stored anywhere you feel comfortable. Most people prefer to stack their firewood in their shed, backyard or even within their homes. Contrary to popular belief, firewood is not sensitive to elements such as rain or sunshine. In fact, they help dry out the firewood even more.
We recommend only bringing in the relevant quantities when needed to not clutter your fire area. It is also important to stack your firewood away from the foundation of your property and other combustible materials. Speak to our experts to learn more about where to store your firewood.

RTF fescue fills in its own bare patches
RTF stands for Rhizomatous Tall Fescue, and the rhizomes are the whole point: underground runners that send new shoots up through the lawn, so when a patch wears thin or dries out the lawn repairs it rather than you re-turfing it. It's also the one that stays deep green all year. Where the warm-season grasses slow down and lose colour over a Melbourne winter, RTF keeps going, and roots that reach up to two metres down find water other lawns can't.
Grown in Victoria, backed in writing
Our RTF comes from Strathayr, who grow it in Victoria under licence from Lawn Solutions Australia — the same stable as the rest of our range. It's inspected under AusGAP, Australia's only turf accreditation programme, and comes with a Product Warranty Certificate covering the lawn for up to 10 years from installation, emailed to you once it's in the ground.

Common questions
Why is there a 30 m² minimum?
RTF is grown in smaller volumes than our other varieties, and it's delivery-only, so we can't split it into small runs. If your area is under 30 m², Sir Walter or Kikuyu will serve you better and we can deliver any size.
How much watering does it need?
Less than you'd expect once it's established. The roots travel up to two metres down and reach moisture other lawns can't. For the first 2 to 4 weeks, keep the soil underneath damp while it takes — it establishes faster than regular tall fescue, so that window is shorter.
How do I top dress and fertilise it?
If you're levelling out bumps, use washed sand. For everything else a sandy loam like our turf loam is the better choice, because it carries some organic matter as well as levelling — no more than a centimetre at a time, with the grass tips still showing. Then fertilise at the start of each season with Lawn Solutions Premium Fertiliser.
Is it covered by a warranty?
Yes. Lawn Solutions Australia provides a Product Warranty Certificate covering the lawn for up to 10 years from installation, provided you follow the laying and care instructions that come with your delivery. We email you the certificate once the lawn is in. Separately, turf is perishable and has to go down as soon as it arrives — so if there's a problem with the turf as delivered, tell us in writing within 8 hours so we can sort it straight away.

The soft buffalo lawn that copes with shade
Sir Walter Buffalo has a broad, soft leaf — the one to pick when the lawn is for sitting on, or the yard has a shady corner. It handles up to 75% shade, more than any other variety we carry, grows slowly so there's less mowing, and its runners travel across the surface rather than underground, so it won't come up in the middle of a garden bed.
It's the real Sir Walter, and that's provable
Turf sold as "Sir Walter" isn't always Sir Walter, and you can't tell by looking at a pallet. Ours is DNA certified: every batch is tested against the original plant to the AusGAP standard through Lawn Solutions Australia, sold only through accredited suppliers like us, and grown on Victorian farms for Victorian conditions.

Common questions
How often should I water it?
For the first week or two, water every few days so the soil underneath doesn't dry out. After that, once a week is usually enough. In a heatwave it'll want more; through winter it rarely needs watering at all.
How do I top dress and fertilise it?
If you're levelling out bumps, use washed sand. For everything else a sandy loam like our turf loam is the better choice, because it carries some organic matter as well as levelling. Either way, no more than a centimetre at a time with the grass tips still showing, concentrating on the joins and edges so they don't dry out. Then fertilise at the start of each season with Lawn Solutions Premium Fertiliser.
When is the best time to lay it?
September through to May. It establishes fastest in the warmer months, and it repairs more slowly over winter — so if you can choose your timing, choose spring or autumn.
