Mulch is the job that pays you back all summer. A good layer over your beds, veggie patch and borders holds water in, keeps weeds down and insulates the soil through a Melbourne summer and winter alike. That means less watering, less weeding, and a smaller water bill.
Ours is organic, all natural and made at our own yard in Keilor Park. Same yard, same family, since 1993. Delivered across Melbourne or pick up from the yard. Not sure which mulch or how much? Call us on (03) 9331 5300.
The mulch for big areas. Coarse, long-lasting, and made here.
Australian Native Garden Mulch is a composted mulch screened to 40 mm, which makes it the coarsest of the three we make. The bigger pieces knit together on the ground, so it stays put on slopes and in wind, holds its colour and texture for longer, and takes a lot longer to break down than a fine mulch. That is exactly what you want when you are covering a large area and don't want to be back next spring doing it again. It is the mulch landscapers put down by the truckload, and the one to choose for native gardens, big beds, paths and anywhere the job is measured in metres rather than barrows.
Made at our Keilor Park yard, from green waste we collect
Every cubic metre starts as Melbourne garden waste. We pulverise it, compost it hot for a month so weed seeds and pathogens are dead, then screen it. Australian Native is the 40 mm screen. The same material screened finer is our English Country Garden Mulch at 12 mm, and finer again it is Dig In Compost. One process, one source, three products, and nothing we sell is trucked in from somewhere else.
- 100% recycled Melbourne green waste
- Hot composted — weed seeds and pathogens killed
- Screened to 40 mm

Common questions
Australian Native or English Country?
Same material, different screen. Australian Native is up to 40 mm, so it is chunkier, lasts longer on the ground and costs less per metre, which suits big areas, native gardens, paths and slopes. English Country is 12 mm, so it is finer, neater and breaks down faster, which suits garden beds, veggies and anywhere on show. If you're mulching a whole block, Native. If you're mulching the beds along the house, English Country.
How long does it last?
Longer than any other mulch we make. The coarse pieces break down slowly, so a 75–100 mm layer will hold its cover for a couple of seasons and often more before it needs a top-up. It feeds the soil as it goes, just more gradually than a fine mulch does. If you want the longest gap between mulching, this is the one.
Is it weed-free, and will it look like the photo?
It is composted hot for a month, which kills weed seeds and pathogens, so you are not bringing weeds in with it. The colour can vary a little from batch to batch because it is a natural composted product rather than a dyed one — it is always a natural brown, but some loads are darker than others. If the colour matters for a particular job, ring us and we'll describe what's in the yard today.
What happens on delivery day?
The truck tips the load where you tell us — a driveway, nature strip or front lawn. Put a tarp down if you want a clean pickup afterwards, and let us know about tight access, overhead wires or a steep drive when you order. Mulch is light, so one truck carries up to 8 m³, twice what it carries in soil; orders over 8 m³ are two trips and we'll confirm the cost with you first.

Our most popular mulch. Fine, dark, and made here.
English Country Garden Mulch is a composted mulch screened to 12 mm, which makes it the finest and most refined of the three we make. It spreads easily, sits neatly on a bed, and holds moisture through a Melbourne summer. Because it is fine and fully composted, it also breaks down faster than a coarse mulch, which means it starts feeding the soil underneath within the first season rather than just sitting on top. It is the one to choose for garden beds, flower beds and veggie patches, and anywhere you want the mulch to look as good as the plants.

How long does it last?
A 75 mm layer does a full season and usually more, but because it is fine and composted it is feeding the soil as it goes, so it does thin out. Most people top up with 50 mm each spring. That is the trade-off with a fine mulch: it looks better and does more for the soil, and in return you add to it a little more often.

Frequently Asked Questions
All our mulch is measured and ordered by cubic measurement. It is highly advised before ordering your mulch that you also measure out the depth of the space you are looking to cover. This will ensure our staff are able to provide you with the most accurate estimate of how much you will need for your garden or project.
The Australian Native Garden Mulch is a popular choice amongst commercial and residential landscape gardeners, and offers a perfect solution for effective coverage across large areas. This is a great choice for weed suppression and aesthetics.
The English Country Garden Mulch is a suitable decorative choice for households, and is commonly used in gardens, flower beds and veggie gardens offering great drainage and weed suppression.
Mulch is delivered loosely and is not pre-packaged in bags. The truck used on the day by our team will also depend on the amount and volume of mulch ordered. One of our team members will get in touch once your order is placed to discuss the products availability and size that you are after.
If the delivery address is located on a narrow street or is hard to access, it is important that you let our staff know as soon as possible or well in advance before your scheduled delivery, and an alternative solution can be organised.
Depending on the size of your delivery, location it is being delivered to, and truck capacity being used, multiple deliveries may be required which can incur additional fees.
We recommend having tarp laid out in your designated delivery area. As the mulch is tipped loosely, this will ensure you are able to move it with ease as needed. It’s important that this location is in an area that is accessible for our trucks to navigate to.
No. All mulch varieties are delivered loosely and are not pre-packed.
We deliver to all properties across Metro Melbourne.
Delivery costs vary depending on the volume of mulch ordered, location and amount of times a truck is required to fulfil the order. For enquiries about delivery fees, we recommend getting in touch with our staff before ordering.
No, we make our mulch from recycled green waste/garden cuttings delivered to us by professional gardeners and households. Our in-house made mulch is a dark chocolate brown, and comes in two sizes which includes Australian Native (Heavy) and English Country Garden (Fine).
Our organic compost variety is made from 100% recycled green waste, and is processed at our green waste disposal facility. Whilst it’s not certified organic, it is as close as possible. We also accept garden waste from both professional and residential gardeners.
Our botanical blend is made with soil and sandy loam which has been mixed with cow and chicken manure. This is to ensure your garden is filled with the nutrients it needs to grow healthy flowers and plants. As this is a recycled compost it is possible for small pieces of grass or plastic to get through in the blend, but this will have a minimal impact on your garden.
No, we have our own mulch and compost.
