When choosing your firewood, the best burning firewood will be dry and dense.

What does this mean?
Our firewood must comply with the following:
- be sourced from legal and environmentally friendly sources
- comply with National Trade Measurement Regulations
- be fully seasoned and dry, moisture content must be below 25%
- not be painted or chemically contaminated or preservative treated
- be sustainably harvested from responsible sources such as plantations, waste wood and residues
Seasoned Wood - the extent to which wood has dried. To get the most out of your firewood, ensure you source wood that has been properly seasoned for a clean and efficient burn. Cleaning your stove or burner will be another first point-of-call, as this may reveal any woodfire stove parts which may need cleaning or replacing, and will remove the possibility of producing too much smoke.
Moisture Content - moist wood will not burn properly, as your fire will have to dry the wood first before burning, which is wasteful and creates excess smoke. The result of seasoning firewood correctly is that you'll see a drop in moisture content to below 25%, with the end goal of your fire burning efficiently for longer and warmer.
Density - firewood burns at a higher temperature and for a longer time than softwoods. Hardwoods are denser than that of softwoods and will burn longer. This makes hardwoods like Redgum, a great choice of wood for your wood stove, chiminea, or open-flame BBQ pit.
Dense woods can be harder to ignite though, and the use of a good firestarter or kindling will potentially be needed. Softwoods burn faster, and the subsequent coals will diminish quickly making it less efficient than using a hardwood.
It is best to store your firewood away from your house in a well-ventilated area outside.
