Instant Turf – Summer Update

strawberries

With Summer upon us it’s now time to prepare your back yard for those holiday and weekend BBQ’s.

Summer is a great time to lay your turf. All of the drought tolerant varieties such as Sir Walter Buffalo, Nullarbor Couch and Eureka Kikuyu are now coming out of their dormant phase and ‘greening up’ nicely. If you wait until March/April, you will find that the weather will be too cold for the turf to establish well. Drought tolerant turfs prefer the warmer weather.

Please note during Summer and over long weekends our trucks can fill up, the more notice you can give us the better. We do have yard pick ups for smaller amounts of turf.

wateringWatering:

All drought varieties of lawn, need a light water each week during the Summer months.
If there is really hot weather on the way, try and give your lawn a good drink in the morning and during the night on those days.

Buffalo – you will need to mow every 2-3 weeks. Do not mow below 40mm

Kikuyu – will need mowing regularly during Summer to ensure no undergrowth shows up, for best results mow to a height of between 20mm and 40mm

Couch – will need mowing nearly weekly during Summer, and should be kept between 10-20mm

RTF – Fescue – (not drought tolerant)
Mowing is 40-60mm in height
Watering – Will require constant watering during Summer months

Fertilising your instant lawn:
Remember to fertilise 6-8 weeks after you install your new instant grass, and then at the start of each season.

10kg

Sir Walter Fertiliser is available in 4kg = $25 or 10kg = $50

We suggest that you do not use weed and feed products, as this type of product attempts to do 2 things at the same time, somewhat unsuccessfully, weeds need to be addressed differently to fertilising. Fertilising should be done in a granular form which is slow release as it will last longer

I am  happy to answer any questions you may have, I also welcome all feedback or comments.
